Landscapes

Whenever we drive to the doctors, or the medical center, or the hospital, we drive through major construction. It is fun to see the changes and the progress being made. I think it’s interesting.

But what I feel is something quite different: it feels like a metaphor of my life. Life right now feels all torn up, with detours along the way, it’s tricky to negotiate, and it changes every day.

We look forward to the time when the road work is all finished, functional and beautiful, even though the familiar landscape will be very different.

We can’t see the progress inside R’s body; we hope it’s improving and getting better. The part where it’s finished, functional and beautiful will probably come much later.

What we do know is, the landscape of our mortal life is forever changed.

You are a wise and perceptive woman and I love and miss you terribly! I am so grateful for all you have done to improve my mortal landscape as my mother and my friend. Thinking of you...

You are so wise. Metaphors escape me, so I'm glad that you are here to bring it into perspective for me.

I found you again! Somewhen we had to reinstall my operating system and I lost my favorites. Many of them I don't miss (most of them I don't remember) but I did miss your blog, your love and your wisdom. I know one of the last times we talked, you mentioned R's challenges...praying the Lord's blessings on you and yours.
