and my life isn't what I want it to be,
and I'm not what I wish I was, and....
I like to whine and complain as much as the next person -- well, I hope not as much as some people. It validates me; it feeds my humanness.
But something about it always feels uncomfortable, like an ill-fitting garment. It's just wrong.
It's something about missing the roses for the thorns.
Complaining is maximizing the good things of the past andWhining, it seems to me, is almost always evidence of a lack of appreciation.
minimizing the good things of the present.
God meant for us to be happy. That can only happen when we notice and appreciate the good in ourselves, in others, in events, and in our lives.
And so I try to remember this quote from The Talmud:
“A person will be called to account on Judgment Day for every permissible thing he might have enjoyed but did not.”
So, Self, no whining.
Count your blessings and have joy!
“God does not dwell in gloom and melancholy, but in light and love.” Ezra Taft Benson
